I am really impressed with the multi-format Marvel stories that are taking place in current theaters, on network television and within online streaming services such as Netflix. At the core of this mammoth franchise/studio is the origin stories that created “The Avengers” universe (“Iron Man”, “Thor” etc).

The First “Avengers” movie was an eye popping, mind warping fun excursion. It brought back ‘Star Wars” and “Harry Potter” like blockbuster magic. The second in the series “The Avengers: The Age of Ultron” has it’s share of fun and “ooh ah” type moments but it is nowhere near as cutting edge and smart as the first.

“The Age of Ultron” has it’s charms, don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a bad review. This movie doesn’t take itself as serious as the first and the actors seem to have a lot more fun with the material. I appreciate how Director Joss Whedon spreads his focus of the interpersonal drama on lesser more “magical” Avengers such as Black Widow and Hawkeye. By giving more depth to the lesser known characters who don’t have their own franchise Whedon gives the movie more emotional depth and an authentic human feel.

In the end this movie feels like a lot of set up for the plethora of franchises, spin-offs and T.V series that drive the whole Marvel universe. If you’re a newbie and just so-so into comics, this material may feel like watching “Game of Thrones”, there is a lot of information to remember when watching it.

Geeky fans and hardcore lovers of the Marvel comics world should have fun with this summer blockbuster. The special effects in ‘Age of Ultron” feel state of art, the writing and quick banter are fun. I for one am super excited to see what comes next in this franchise. So far, this is a fun start of the 2015 summer movie season.
